ABOUT US
The Liberia Institute for the Promotion of Academic Excellence is a youth-led nonprofit organization with a purpose of using data-driven approaches to enable students and teachers see their tireless efforts lead to increase student achievement. We work to reduce the performance gap and increase student achievement as the way forward in addressing the systemic collapse of Liberia’s educational system.
EXAM IN REVIEW
All secondary students in Liberia, who wish to go on to university, must pass the annual national exams administer by the West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC). Sadly, nearly half the number of students sitting the national exam fails every year. With Exams in Review, we are delivering a full achievement package for students through routine interactive series and seminars.
TEACHERS DEV.
Through our Teachers Development Workshop Series, we are training teachers and helping schools identify challenges affecting student performances. We empower them with the tools needed to plan interventions and provide resources to help teachers improve their efficiency, effectiveness and quality of teaching as recipe for increasing student achievement.
WOMEN & GRILS
Poverty, gender norms and other social, cultural and economic factors continue to affect the achievement level of women and girls. Through the Women & Girls Social Change Program, we provide women & girls with valuable skills in leadership & accountability, conflict mitigation, grassroots organizing. Our training bolster their courage and power to act for social change thus reducing the achievement gap.
VOLUNTEERING
With a growing number of rural schools in Liberia lacking basic text books for teachers, stationery supplies, a clean environment and safe drinking water, our annual Volunteering for Change event identifies one rural school in need of basic social services. Through a network of urban secondary students, we conduct training workshop for teachers, donate use school materials, and promote collaboration
TEACHERS DAY
In 2012, LIPACE with support from UNESCO became the first non-governmental organization in Liberia to show visible commitment to celebrating World Teachers Day in Liberia. Since then, every year more than 100 secondary schools have joined in recognizing the diligence of teachers through the celebration of World Teachers Day.
