    • TEACHERS DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP SERIES

Through our Teachers Development Workshop Series, we are training teachers and helping schools identify challenges affecting student performances. We empower them with the tools needed to plan interventions and provide resources to help teachers improve their efficiency, effectiveness and quality of teaching as recipe for increasing student achievement.

The dismal performances of students on national exam speaks volume about the competency and effectiveness of teachers in Liberia. Through our Teachers Development Workshop Series, we are training teachers and helping schools identify challenges affecting student performances at an affordable cost.

Designed as a five hours in-depth teacher training workshop, we adopt a blended learning approach at our workshop to ensure teachers understand everything about

the national exams, its content, and governance. Through partnership with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), our volunteers are train to understand everything about the national exams. These insights are integrated into our workshop module.

Since 2015, we have trained a total of 350 secondary school teachers across 28 different high schools in five counties. For the second consecutive year, the program has provided training for Peace Corps Volunteers. At the end of these trainings, teachers are empower with practical tools needed to plan interventions and provide resources to help teachers improve the efficiency, effectiveness and quality of learning as recipe for increasing student achievement.

In 2017, we developed an Individualized Subject Topics Checklist for the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) which will be administer in April 2018. This tool is in response to the divergence in curriculum content between the national curriculum and the exam syllabus. This checklist include a simple self-monitoring tool for teachers to assess the extent to which students understand key topics that have been taught.

We are currently exploring an expansion strategy to trained teachers across all fifteen counties by the end of 2018/2019 school year. Through our Teachers Development Workshop Series, we are inspiring teachers increase student achievement and create greater meaning and impact in their students lives!
